Director, Intellectual Property
The candidate will assist in developing and executing the firm’s global IP strategy. Develop and maintain patent and trademark portfolios in alignment with the firm’s business goals and strategy. Work effectively with outside IP law firm in the acquisition, prosecution, and maintenance of the firm’s intellectual property assets. Drive patent preparation and prosecution work internally and with outside IP counsel. Assist in trademark clearance analyses and prosecution of trademark applications. Routinely partner with the Vice President, Intellectual Property on a wide variety of matters. Draft, review and negotiate IP-related contracts in partnership with the firm’s Legal Contracts team. Conduct IP due diligence, including patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, and validity analyses. Work effectively as a collaborator and team player, exhibiting strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with in-house teams, including Business Development, Research and Development, Scientific Publications, Contracts, Finance, and Corporate Communications. BS degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biology, chemistry or other life sciences field. Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) is highly preferred. Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentials is required. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered. Should have 7+ years IP experience in biotech/pharma industry or within a law firm serving biotech/pharma clients is preferred. Experience in both law firm and life sciences corporate practice is preferred. Should be licensed in good standing with at least one state bar and, if not licensed in California, having or able to obtain a California corporate bar license. Should be registered to practice before the USPTO.
