Through a culture of inclusion, we create a better, more productive work environment. We believe that the diverse experiences and perspectives of all our employees help to drive innovation and transformative business results.

The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as antibodies and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential. By using a blend of internal and external technologies and capabilities, we work to discover and deliver first-in-class as well as best-in-class molecules that warrant clinical evaluation for patient benefit.

Position Summary:

We seeking a skilled and enthusiastic experimental scientist with some computational biology experience to join the Protein Engineering group as a Research Investigator I. The group develops and modifies novel antibody-based biotherapeutics to drive specific responses in disease states, in close collaboration with other protein and immunology scientists. The candidate will be expected to contribute to protein engineering projects that leverage experimental protein work and computational designs to generate, characterize, and optimize immuno-oncologic therapeutic candidates with requisite potency and efficacy.

Responsibilities:

Lead protein engineering efforts to create and optimize designs for novel antibody-based biotherapeutic drug discovery.
Design constructs, purify proteins, and assess their design and function through experimental assays.
Process datasets (experimental, sequence, and structural) to understand and visualize results.
Independently perform protein modeling and computational design to assess and create molecules with attention to biological function.
Excellent written and oral skills are necessary, to interpret results and present to team members.
Accomplish goals under project team time lines.

Requirements:

Ph.D. in biochemistry, structural biology, computational biology, or similar fields with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Experience with designing proteins and characterizing their function.
Understanding of the sequence and structure of proteins and bioinformatics tools utilized in analyzing sets of related molecules.
Experience in structure-based protein design with Rosetta, MOE, BioLuminate, or similar packages.
Some programming experience in Python and/or R for protein structure and sequence analyses, data analytics/machine learning, and visualization is preferred.
Ability to creatively contribute to multidisciplinary biologics discovery teams.
