The candidate will assist and support the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel in the performance, direction, and oversight of all legal services for Nebraska Medicine, an academic health system that includes two hospitals, a physician practice group, and multiple affiliated legal entities. Lead and develop a team of strategic legal advisors who provide legal counsel and advice on areas of law that include general healthcare, academic medicine, Stark Law, anti-kickbacks statutes, fraud and abuse, EMTALA, payer relations and contracting, employment, information technology, patient privacy, data security, corporate compliance, non-profit tax exemption, medical malpractice, real estate, litigation, and healthcare transactions, including affiliations, mergers and acquisitions. Should have 10+ years of relevant legal experience. Must have 3+ years of experience managing a team of attorneys. Strong knowledge of healthcare law required. Must have well-developed understanding of, and ability to educate others with respect to, Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and HIPAA. Significant and demonstrated leadership experience with an ability to develop and retain staff with exceptional talent, insight, and commitment to the organization required. Proven track record of developing strong relationship and using communication skills, personal credibility and demeanor, and knowledge base to create and strengthen trust of legal department required. Juris Doctor (JD) degree required. Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. Strong analytical skills required. License to practice law in good standing in Nebraska required. Experience advising academic health systems preferred. Healthcare experience required.
