Update an old PhPbb forum & migrate old data/usernames to newly designed platform
We have an old PHPbb forum that last saw major updates in 2009, though has seen periodic updates through 2014 or so. We are looking at updating/refreshing the design, and are looking not only to have the work done but suggestions on which the best way to do so is. The data is all still available, however the host has stop hosting the site until the PhP version has been updated.
Wed like all the old data (posts, usernames/join dates/post count/pictures/links/etc) to transfer to a new site if possible. Were not sure if the best way to do this is update the PhPbb and continue to use a site based on PhPbb, or if it would be better to migrate the data to a newer and more powerful web platform. Worst case, a non-styled archive of posts and information could be stood up in phpbb, and a more powerful web tool could be used for the new design of the website and contain links to the old archive, as long as user login data could be transfered.
Part 1: Get website usable again so it can be hosted (either update the PhP version or migrate to new platform).
Part 2. Using either PhPbb or a new platform, redesign the website to have a more modern look/feel and more modern tools.
