Works under the supervision of Surgical Processing Tech
II’s, Surgical Processing Tech III’s, the Surgical Processing Team Leader, the Surgical
Processing Team Coordinator and the Director of Surgical Services.  The Surgical Processing Department’s mission
is to carry out the Medical Center’s Mission
serving the patient by providing necessary supplies, equipment and
services.  The principle objective of
this position is to decontaminate all patient care equipment and surgical instrumentation.

 

Uses and discloses patient protected health
information: 1) Only as it applies to job functions, 2) in amounts minimally
necessary for intended purpose, and 3) in a confidential manner
Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Responsible for
daily analysis and prioritizing of work tasks. 
Set priorities on workflow.Protects self
using personal protective equipment for decontamination of surgical instrumentation
and equipment according to procedure.Cleans and
decontaminates contaminated patient care equipment and surgical instrumentation
according to procedure.Scans instrument
set bar codes for tracking purposes per procedure. Communicates
problems with supplies or equipment to the Surgical Processing Team Leader or
Surgical Processing Team Coordinator.Completes special
projects as assigned by Surgical Processing Tech II’s, Surgical Processing Tech
III’s, Surgical Processing Team Leaders, Surgical Processing Team Coordinator
and Director of Surgical Services. Works on
committees in Surgical Processing and/or ancillary departments as assigned by
Surgical Processing Team Coordinator or Director of Surgical Services.













 

Marginal Job Functions:

Maintains neat
and clean work area. Definite care
required to prevent injuries to self and others. Works to maintain
a positive team relationship with co-workers.Exhibits
dependability; coordinates and plans responsibilities accordingly.Performs other
duties as assigned.















 

Expectations:

Able to perform
all above duties independently. Works without
direct supervision.Good standing for
six months.Approval from
team leader, coordinator, director for Tech II advancement.

None required.



Experience/Pre-Requisites:

Previous experience in Central Service desired.

well in appearance and conduct. 
Demonstrates optimum physical and emotional health through quality of

work independently so as to be able to recognize problems and anticipate
changing needs of supplies.Must be able to complete
all work within a shift and task assignment and able to make independent
decisions on day-to-day work flow conditions. 












 

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Continued
walking, prolonged standing, frequent kneeling, bending, reaching and stooping.Occasional
pushing of very heavy carts and medium-heavy lifting.Frequent stress
due to demands of production work and frequent interruptions.May be exposed to
hazardous conditions or materials such as infectious waste and be able to wear
personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, shoe covers, face shield and
mask). Adapt to different
work environments, concentrate, record requests, and issue correct item to
correct customer at the correct time.
