iotaMotion is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer
. The individual should have strong technical and communication skills, experience with mechanical design and testing in a medical devices, and be willing to work with enthusiasm in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment as a member of a small team. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and should be motivated and comfortable translating general directions into actionable tasks and deliverables. Candidates must be able to devote 40 hours per week on company deliverables.  This role will be an “in-office” role at our new office in Pittsburgh, PA.
iotaMotion is an early-stage medical device company headquartered in Iowa City, IA with new satellite offices to be established in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis-St. Paul.  The company is developing and commercializing
surgical robotics technologies that standardize cochlear implant insertion and expand access to cochlear interventions for surgeons and patients through innovative, surgeon-centric solutions. You will have the opportunity to impact the lives of millions with severe hearing loss.  You will help define the future of surgery by leading the design and development of our unique robotic-assisted systems alongside world-renowned surgeons.
Desirable skillsets and experiences may include medical devices, implantable devices, electrical control system design, embedded systems, injection molding, wireless communications, PCB layout and design, mechanical design, fabrication, general knowledge of design process methods, quality systems, and GMP.
The role will include the following tasks:
Design, testings, and documentation of robotic solutions in cochlear implantation surgery.
Work closely with end-users (i.e. neurotologists, otolaryngologists, audiologists, surgical staff) to ensure the products meet the true needs of customers
Draft CAD models, engineering drawings, patent filing drawing, validation reports, and manufacturing procedures.
Manage contract prototyping and manufacturing efforts toward quick-turn proof of concept and “failing fast”
Design and construction of custom mechanical test fixtures utilizing applicable ASTM and ISO standards
Design experience for component leveraging injection-molding and additive manufacturing
Perform mechanical testing of prototypes in a laboratory and GMP environment
Utilize Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to accurately document all activities and data capture while maintaining fastidious notes
Draft test methods and procedures as well as validation/verification protocols, especially to meet IEC 60601 standards
Operate within the defined design and development procedures of the iotaMotion quality system.
Work closely with senior personnel to identify areas of individual interest and facilitate career goals

Requirements

Expertise in IEC 60601-1 mechanical safety testing
Strong foundations in mechanical engineering and mechatronics
Experience with finite element analysis
Experience with servomotors and teleoperative systems
Proven ability to design mass produced products designed for manufacturability
A passion for creating innovative, elegant, and reliable products
Preferences:
Experience designing custom medical equipment housing, consoles, or carts
Familiarity with IEC 60601-1 electrical safety testing
Additional desirable areas of experience include: basic programming skills, Labview, Matlab, Solid Works, CREO, Fusion360, mechanical testing, statistics
Experience with mechatronics design, including sensors, PCBs, and microcontrollers
Design of electronics and necessary housings
Design for wireless communication
Industrial design experience
