Associate Counsel
The candidate under supervision of the University Counsel, will provide legal services to the Ames Laboratory (1/2 time) and support the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Research enterprise (1/2 time). Will represent and serve as General Counsel to Ames Laboratory. Will be a collaborative member of the Laboratory Management team, advising Laboratory Management on a full range of ongoing legal matters, with a focus on contract, regulatory and compliance matters. Responsibilities of this position also include working closely with the Vice President for Research (VPR), and units reporting to the VPR. The offices in which report to VPR include the Office of Responsible Research (research compliance), Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, and the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration. Should have the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of individuals internal and external to the University. Must possess the ability to exercise sound judgment on challenging issues and perform tasks with professionalism, diligence and integrity. The ability to work independently on routine legal matters, and to recognize issues of institutional importance and keep the University Counsel, University and Ames Laboratory administrators appropriately informed will also be needed. Should J.D., or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Preferred Experience: Experience with application of federal acquisition regulations. Should have experience drafting and negotiating research along with intellectual property contracts and documents. Must have experience advising a department of Energy (DOE) management and operating (M&O) laboratory. Should have experience advising public entities including public higher education clients. Must have experience working collaboratively and managing relationships with multiple interrelated entities.
