Profile

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision - transforming patients' lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease - and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry - each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

PREREQUISITES

Ph.D. in a relevant biological science with at least 10 years of post-graduate experience (industry experience strongly preferred)

Summary/Scope

The successful candidate will have the responsibility for testing novel concepts in cell-based drug discovery and target validation for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases, with a focus on the modulation of protein homeostasis pathways as a therapeutic approach. This individual will play a key scientific role in a small, highly dispersed team supporting BMS efforts to develop therapeutics for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in applying a variety of genetic and compound-based screening approaches in support of drug discovery programs in neuroscience, with a strong preference for experience in discovering and validating novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in the modulation of protein homeostasis and degradation pathways for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases. S/he should be equally adept contributing to our science directly and through leading and guiding others. Candidates with additional expertise in genetics will be prioritized.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develop strategies to probe protein degradation and homeostasis pathways as therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases.
Be responsible for developing and testing exploratory approaches in neuroscience drug discovery including in vitro and ex vivo assay development, small molecule and genetic screening, and target and lead validation.
Collaborate with internal groups to exploit BMS technologies in targeted protein degradation, developing strategies to identify and validate targets for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases.
Design and produce gene edited cell lines for target validation and screening using in house expertise and coordination of external collaborations.
Develop patient-relevant systems for target and lead validation including use of iPSC-derived cell types (such as neurons or microglial cells).
Represent the Neuroscience TRC in internal project discussions to identify opportunities for collaboration across our therapeutic areas and technological functions.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (eg Neurobiology, Cell Biology, Genetics) with at least 10 years post-graduate experience (industry experience strongly preferred). Demonstrated expertise in protein degradation and homeostasis pathways, particularly as they apply to neurodegenerative diseases. Ability to design, perform, and interpret complex in vitro mechanistic studies for neurodegenerative disease drug discovery. Proven expertise in design and performance of high-throughput cell-based screens using small molecule or genetic approaches. Demonstrated ability to develop novel discovery approaches. Experience or strong familiarity with genome engineering and gene editing approaches. Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously. Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues across scientific functions in the Research & Early Development organization. Strong communication skills.

Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases.
