Job Description:
Passionate about Computational/data science, AI and digital innovation? Excited about cutting-edge digital technologies? Curious how to apply digital research for energy transition solutions?
This role covers all of the above and much more.
Join us in pushing the boundaries of Computational Science and Digital Innovation and #makethefuture together.
Where You Fit In?
Chemistry and materials science innovation is at the forefront of energy transition; be it for the design of catalysts, fuels, lubes in Shell’s conventional product portfolio or in the energy transition portfolio for Hydrogen, Electrification of demand and storage, to name a few. You are going to be a key part of pushing the frontiers of digital innovation for chemistry and materials science, applying multiscale modeling, thermodynamic modeling, reduced-order modeling for accelerating and guiding focused experimentation. As a thought-leader in the Computational Science team that houses deep expertise in computational chemistry and materials science, you would be required to collaborate with sister teams to push the boundaries of multiscale modeling and physics based augmented intelligence modeling in problems worth solving across Integrated Gas, Renewable Energy Solutions, Upstream and Downstream.
What is the Role?
Accountable for building a differentiated capability and shaping the portfolio of Computational Chemistry and Material Science for medium and long-term opportunities. More specifically, your role will entail:
Delivery and impact: you will need to interface well within Shell for bringing in problems worth solving from diverse LoBs and stakeholders and land tangible, quantifiable impactful delivery as recorded in the Impact Management Framework and beyond.
External trends: You will need to keep an eye and leverage external trends to bring in cutting edge innovation in this space. Established connections and credibility in external professional bodies and academic community will be a plus. Leveraging open innovation and a commercial mindset is a critical element of this role.
Differentiated capability: you will need to continue building on and expand on our differentiated expertise in reduced-order modeling, reactor/reaction modeling for areas like Process Safety, Hydrogen, CCUS and Electrification. You need to work closely with the relevant stakeholders from PTX and business. You would need to seek opportunities to apply machine learning and AI where appropriate.
What we need from you?
When it comes to nurturing collaborative stakeholder relations it’s your excellent people skills that will make the difference. You will inspire people to make changes that will have a direct impact on our commercial success.
Furthermore, you will have:
A legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
PhD in Chemical Engineering or related qualification.
Minimum experience after PhD of 3 years hands-on post-doctoral or industrial R&D experience and knowledge of multiscale reduced-order modeling, reactor/reaction modeling/chemical kinetics.
Experience in scientific programing in one or more languages: FORTRAN, C/C , JAVA, MATLAB, Mathematica, MAPLE, PYTHON
Experience and track record of strategic business delivery from R&D projects.
Proven track record of external peer-reviewed publications.
Proven collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams. Self-propelling, delivery focus, can-do attitude.
