We are seeking a motivated full stack engineer on the Business Intelligence team to support our day-to-day data pipeline development and systems operation. This is a “Dev Ops” position that has the opportunity to work on all facets of our BI data processing systems leveraging the latest Business Intelligence technologies and is supported by a full team including management staff and data analysts. Responsibilities:
Responsible for development, implementation and production operations of BI systems including data collection and processing systems, data warehouses, reporting and monitoring systems.
Follow best practice engineering standards to ensure platform reliability and efficiency in both physical and virtual environments.
Provide technical leadership in design and administration of systems and platforms in all data centers.
Continually look for ways to optimize system efficiency, improve data processing time, minimize job failures and unnecessary data storage to streamline operational cost.
Continually analyze data and system architecture and propose changes.
Plan, facilitate, and participate in systems and platform upgrades, service, and preventative maintenance activities.
Ensure prompt repair of any failed or degraded equipment and ensure proper operation and maintenance of all equipment.
Use python to pull data from various sources such as third party APIs and AWS systems, internal systems, etc. into the data warehouse.
Work with engineering teams to ensure Demand Media sites are properly instrumented for the necessary metrics to track.
Tier 1 tech support for afterhours / on call data failures the Network Operations Center cannot fix.
Document systems and platform logical and physical operations processes, procedures, and configurations.
Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company.
Instrument, analyze, and publish systems and platform capacity, performance, and availability metrics leveraging enterprise monitoring tools.
Stay abreast of modern systems and platform technology, and possess a minimum of advanced knowledge of industry standard systems and platform tools and methodology.
Participate in department-level planning and strategy development processes.
Requirements:
BA in data science, engineering or math required
4 years work experience in a full stack development operations role (DevOps) with Linux systems, preferably within a Business Intelligence team.
Advanced scripting ability (Python required, Javascript, Pig a plus)
Experience with multiple data warehouse technologies (Amazon RedShift and SQL skills required)
Experience with virtual data center environments including AWS, VMWare and OpenStack technologies.
Experience architecting and implementing systems and platforms across multiple locations globally.
Knowledge of Internet protocols (HTTP, SSL, DNS, SMPT, XML, etc) and TCP/IP, iSCSI, RAID, FC, Ethernet protocols.
Experience with Tableau and/or comparable BI reporting software’s
Experience with job scheduling software’s and automation to ensure highest data pipeline uptime without hands on system operations required.
Experience with systems, platforms, and physical layer troubleshooting and resolution of highly complex systems, platforms, and physical layer problems.
Experience with systems, platforms, and physical layer system performance engineering and capacity planning activities.
Experience architecting, evaluating, and recommending new systems, platforms, and physical layer system technologies without direct supervision.
Ability to plan, document, and manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines effectively with minimal supervision.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required
