Profile

SUMMARY: This position performs a variety of task including installation and certification of communications networks constructed with fiber optic and copper transport technologies. Responsibilities include: maintains an advanced and current level of technical knowledge and skills involving networking design, architecture, implementation, and troubleshooting used in communications network cabling; installation, diagnoses, testing, and maintenance operations on data communications systems, IP Telephony, voice and data circuits, high speed carrier systems, and power sources; provides working knowledge and training to other Telecommunications Technicians and technical support for Management Information Systems organization.REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School, diploma or equivalent., Experience: 4 years of cabling Cat 5E, Cat 6 & Fiber Optics, installation; working knowledge of IP Telephony and Cisco networking equipment. Communication Skills: Strong communication skills; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and follow manuals. Special Skills: Working knowledge of installation and certification of communications network infrastructure, high speed networking technologies, IP Telephony and power sources; ability to engineer raceways/cabling needs for Wan/Lan high speed communications; operate network certification/test equipment; ability to work independently and establish and maintain effective work relationships. Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to kneel, walk and/or stand for considerable lengths of time, handle moderate to heavy network supplies 50 lbs., climb a ladder. Travel: Willing to travel extensively (average 175 nights per year on the road); have a valid driver's license.
