Associate Director of Admissions

Duties: Reports directly to the Dean of Admissions for the Juris Doctor (J.D.) program, and works with Dean of Admissions to develop and implement marketing strategies and other goals with aim of successfully recruiting impressive students from a highly selective pool of applicants worldwide. Primary responsibility for all aspects of yield management: the formulation of strategy and the implementation of programs designed to maximize the Law School's ability to enroll the most highly qualified law students from across the United States and around the world. Includes the planning and management of all outreach initiatives to faculty and prospective applicants, student/alumni ambassador program, on-campus open houses, alumni/ae events, use of approved social media, webinars, and pertinent mailings. Development of analytical tools and strategies for tracking progress of class selection and applicants. Create strategic plan and messaging, which includes data analysis and trend reports, for building connections with admitted students to boost post-admission recruiting effectiveness. Shared responsibility for meeting with admitted students, including arranging meetings with current students, faculty and administrators, as necessary; Uses national law school applicant database system, primarily for generating and analyzing confidential reports; Participation in interview of applicant process by Skype or any other approved methods. Member of strategic planning team along with the Dean of the Faculty, Dean of Admissions, and Director of Admissions. Member of the Law School's Selection Committee: Shared responsibility for reading, evaluating, interviewing, and rendering decisions on approximately 7,000 admission applications annually. Shared responsibility for administering the Transfer and Visiting programs, as well as Early Decision Plan. Shared responsibility for fall recruitment travel to national Law School admission forums, and campus-based law fairs across the country. Responsible for developing and/or updating yield-related materials for admitted students. Shared responsibility for continued development of admissions publications, both print and internet-based. Participation in selection of several competitive scholarship programs, both externally and internally funded. Interacts with prospective and current applicants who visit, call, or correspond with the Office of Admissions. Must have a strong understanding of the Law School admissions process, as well as internal and external policies governing academic administration. With the Dean of Admissions, represents Columbia Law School in the affairs of the national Law School Admission Council, the principal professional organization for Law School Admission professionals. Undertakes special projects and responsibilities as needed by the Dean of Admissions.
