Sr Network Systems Engineer

Profile

The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to lead network related performance and capability investigations through analysis, emulations, and prototype development. The majority of the work will consist of developing network systems using a general purpose networking testbed with PC’s and commercial routers emulating large scale networking environments. Candidate will also need to perform and oversee the work of junior engineers with the overall administration of the testbed including: development of operating system images, upgrading router/software firmware, and developing hardware refresh plans. Candidate will also need to develop presentations and reports describing the experiments performed in the testbed to program office personnel.

Qualifications:

BS or equivalent in computer science or electrical engineering required. MS or Ph.D. in computer science or electrical engineering, with a focus in communication network systems preferred. At least 8 years experience is required where the candidate can demonstrate a strong technical background in the fundamentals of communication networks, modeling, and simulation. In-depth understanding of the characteristics of IP-based traffic, its mathematical representations, and modeling techniques is required. Candidate must have experience in developing distributed network applications that run on Linux based platforms and have several years of experience in using and configuring LINUX/UNIX systems. Candidate should have an in-depth understanding of Internet based networking protocols, network physical layers, router architectures, and emerging network related technologies. Candidate must have prior experience in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Bash etc as well as C/C Socket Programming. Candidate should have prior experience configuring network switches and routers.
