Senior Cloud Engineer

This position is responsible for a variety of complex professional duties that ensure the Hosting department’s mission and objectives are met. This includes administration of core production server systems, information systems, and technology infrastructure, participation in the design, installation, and maintenance of the complex customer systems, and conducting system troubleshooting analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies.
Must have excellent customer service skills and be proficient in both written and verbal communication.

Essential Functions:
Owns, operates and maintains the 24 x 7 IT systems and software that make up the ViaWest cloud environment
Research, design, develop and implement solutions for fault, performance, capacity, and configuration management for cloud infrastructure
Work with the product management, architecture and engineering teams to implement designs, and perform implementation/configuration changes.
Identifies production stability concerns via break point and impact analysis for cloud systems. Designs, develops and implements remediation plans to address.
Works beyond routine nature of tasks utilizing specialized knowledge and technology.
Thorough oral and written communication skills.
Provide technical support and training to staff on all related technologies as necessary
Requirements:

Extensive experience working with Server operating systems, Windows, Linux, VMware, in a Hosting environment or enterprise
·
Experience designing, supporting, and documenting operational environments in a multi-tenant environment.
Functions included storage, backup, network, monitoring, provisioning, and automation.
·
Experience in data center networks, including Ethernet/10GB Ethernet, Infiniband, and converged networks, storage including iSCSI and NFS/CIFS
·
Experience with Virtualization technologies, compute, storage, and network
·
Familiar with
orchestration technologies, including portals, APIs, protocol adaptors, persistence technologies, etc. Experience with both off the shelf IT orchestration tools and enterprise service buses a plus
·
Talent at diagnosing and remedying serious infrastructure related problems and failures promptly and effectively
·
Experience maintaining servers that provide standard services such as DNS, Active Directory, DHCP, and FTP services
Functional scripting experience to produce solutions and perform troubleshooting. (perl, vb script, shell and python scripting)
Qualifications:
·
10 years Server administration experience.
·
5 years of experience managing and working in a highly virtualized x86 environment
·
Experience with vSphere, vCloud Director, vCenter Chargeback, and Cisco UCS required
·
Experience with VMware SRM and VCops desired
·
VCP certification required
·
MCTS certification desired
·
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field preferred
