SAP Variant Configuration Expert

Profile

The SAP Variant Configuration Expert will be responsible for developing and writing SAP VC rules related to object dependency, material master, bill of material for the sales and purchases of complex products sold by attribute. This position will also lead the adoption of the CINCOM GURU front end modeler interface to SAP. The SAP Variant Configuration Expert must understand industry and company specific build to order product requirements and translate to SAP Variant Configuration rules.
- Modeling the collected product information in SAP Variant Configurator including creation of characteristics, classes, tables, dependencies, profiles, super BOMs..., etc.
- Developing models in the Cincom GURU application to complement the SAP VC rules.
Principal Accountabilities
- On configure to order products:
- Object Dependency maintenance
- Material Master data maintenance
- Bill of Material Audit control
- Works closely with engineering team members to understand requirements for NPI configurable products and interpret and implement those requirements into SAP variant configuration rules.
- Assist engineering & marketing teams with defining rule writing requirements for New Product introduction for VC development. Define the model rules for CINCOM GURU software as well as internal SAP VC rules.
- Evaluates ECR/ECN change requests to determine impact and work effort needs to change VC products.
- Create and maintain master data related to VC products including BOMs, classes, characteristics, dependencies (precondition, procedure, selection condition and constraint), variant tables, variant conditions and variant pricing.
- Coordinates offshore VC resources as needed to support NPI development and review & approved best practices.
- Work with SAP/IT leads on process and functionality changes related to VC products.
- Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard SAP Variant Configuration techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications of the standard SAP Variant Configuration practices to complete new product or product line extension projects.
- Plans and drives projects to conclusion meeting performance and cost objectives in a timely fashion.
- Participates in the requirements gathering, design, development, configuration, testing, and documentation of new and updated processes as it relates to ERP solutions. Ensure that these processes are kept up-to-date through research and attention to evolving needs.
Nature and Scope
The primary responsibility of this position is the configuration of the SAP Variant Configuration application combined with the CINCOM Guru system for material and sales quotation rules maintenance for configure-to-order products. The incumbent will address selected new product designs requiring an increased level of SAP Variant Configuration expertise. The incumbent is expected to provide completed solutions to engineering problems with a minimal amount of technical help from others. This position will require frequent contact with marketing, finance, IT, manufacturing and on occasion with customers and approval agencies.
Requirements
At least 3 years experience using and supporting SAP Variant Configuration.
Cross Functional knowledge of SD/MM/FICO/PP modules in SAP ECC 6.0. Expert knowledge of VC major elements Characteristic, Class, Configuration Profile, and Material Master set up. Familiar with ALE process to move the VC master data to different SAP systems. Experience in a web based configurable product modeling system advantageous. Ability to model complex systems - breakdown intricate product data into comprehensive yet basic structure. Good written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to effectively meet deadlines and milestones, and provide timely updates. Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite.
