SAP PO encoding UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1

Profile

SAP PO encoding UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1
I have a JAVA mapping, code attached that is reading an XML as UTF-8 and converts it to ISO-8859-1.
The problem is with character ß, which is causing the attached error, and it shouldnt as its included in the ISO-8859-1 code page. The EUR sign for example, its not included and it gets transformed to a ? which is the correct output.
Can anyone help with this ?
The Java code is running on a SAP PO system, if there are any other options that work, I am happy to check them.
