Director of Academic Success/Associate Professor of Academic Success
The candidate work 12-month faculty position. Will primarily responsible for overseeing and administering the Academic Success Program, as well as for teaching courses that help students to understand learning techniques and strategies, including those necessary for succeeding on the bar exam. The successful candidate will start no later than August 2020. Will implement a plan to maximize student achievement in law school and on the bar exam. This will include various methods, such as leading large group workshops, facilitating a mini-bar examination or other assessment tools, and overseeing the student teaching fellow or tutoring program. Also counsel those individual students academically at-risk or on academic probation beginning in the first year. Will continue to build programming and develop classes as necessary to further improve the program, advise faculty and staff on teaching effectiveness to achieve specified student learning outcomes, and collaborate with faculty in developing other academic success initiatives. The Director will be responsible for tracking and analyzing data on student performance at all levels from first year to bar exam. Teach courses on topics such as legal analysis and bar preparation, providing students with appropriate guidance and constructive feedback. Courses taught by the Director will all be part of the academic success programming and bar passage initiatives. May be expected, where appropriate to fulfill other teaching responsibilities within the Academic Success Program or the Law School, such as serving as advisor for Independent Studies and Independent Writing Projects. May, with approval of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Dean, teach non-ASP courses within the Law School. Will attend and participate in appropriate conferences, workshops and seminars in the field of academic and bar support, as well as legal education and pedagogy. Remain current on developments, trends, and scholarship in this field. Expected to engage in service to the Law School, the University, the profession, and the community. May serve on any faculty committee, with the exception of the Personnel Committee, and may vote on all matters coming before the faculty, with the exception of retention, promotion and tenure of tenure-track faculty.
