Assistant General Counsel

Duties: Provide legal support to all units on business transactions, including advice, negotiation, drafting and review. Business transactions include procurement, design and construction transactions, real property matters, labor and employment, intellectual property, information technology, technology transfer, and research transactions. Provide advice regarding interpretation and application of regulations, statutes, constitutional provisions, case law, involved in proposed University action. Provide counsel and advice concerning compliance with federal and state laws affecting institutions of higher education. Completes such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the University General Counsel, including: Provide legal advice on public records and subpoena responses. Provide legal advice on investigations and responses to civil rights and tort claims. Coordinating activities of outside counsel retained to represent the University. Advise University bargaining team on issues arising during the course of negotiations. Review and edit bargaining proposals as appropriate. Provide University administrators legal advice in connection with bargaining strategies.
