SUMMARY
Bering Straits Information Technology, LLC, a subsidiary of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is currently seeking a qualified Application Engineer I in Washington, DC. This position will provide customer service and operational support for all technical issues that cannot be resolved by Systems Engineering Staff operating the STOC and will coordinate global upgrade efforts with STOC staff. The Applications Engineer I will assist the SME Applications Engineer and is expected to collaborate with personnel from Networking, Systems Administration, Systems Engineering, Special Projects and Development branches to accomplish short term requirements and long term strategic goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the SME Applications Engineer with ensuring stable operation and efficient performance of various applications.
Monitor and manage various hardware and equipment, including routers, switches and encryptors.
Analyze application performance across the organization’s LANs and WANs.
Provide performance statistics and reports to the Senior Applications Engineer.
Identify and remedy system faults.
Administer hardware and software upgrades for networked security equipment.
Perform research and development.
Perform network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Administer and maintain user accounts, permissions and access rights.
Perform system improvements, upgrades and repairs.
Interact with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure network products and services. Assist the SME Applications Engineer with testing various Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) system integrations.
Must be able to provide periodic 24/7 on call support
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
Required (Minimum) Qualifications
Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret level security clearance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Progressive experience with network management and analysis tools such as Solar Winds
Solid working technical knowledge of software applications, protocols, and standards
Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
Knowledge of network security measures and applicable data privacy practices and laws
Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field.
IT certifications

Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical agility test (PAT) and annually thereafter as prescribed by the government.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory duties do not apply to this position.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
