This position will be an entry-level engineer for the developer tooling team within the platform engineering tools group.

The initiatives in this area span across software build infrastructure, code management and intelligence, development frameworks, library patterns, code structure and quality, a continuous integration platform as well as the creation and scaling of other developer productivity tools. We build modern software with modern techniques like TDD, continuous delivery, DevOps, and microservices architectures.

You will be supported by our Agile ways of working, but we also trust you to focus your time and efforts where they are needed most. Your commitment to applying technology to business challenges in clean & innovative ways will make you a trusted advisor to your partners and their teams. You will contribute to projects and influence our direction with your voice.


Success on this team requires both a drive to understand the challenges of writing modern software and a high degree of empathy for other engineers.

On a day to day basis, success would mean building relationships, understanding of BestBuy engineers and engineering tech, identifying key pain points and bottleneck areas to reduce friction our developers face in their work, and then writing software to solve those challenges.

Experience and education:
Minimum 1 years of software engineering experience or an engineering degree or equivalent
Your Experience will compliment us if it Includes Or Demonstrates...
Basic knowledge of data structures, control flow, algorithm performance, and object-oriented programming concepts
Ability to independently and accurately solve problems in a programming language of your choice
Familiar with design and programming skills applied towards developing modern cloud application products
Exposure to backend, microservices architectures and distributed system
Frontend skills applied towards crafting modern web applications (we use ReactJS)
End to end ownership and high quality outcomes (Preferably more than one example)
A desire to engage directly with users and understand their needs

If you have some experience with these tools, you'll have the chance to get even better with them. And if you don't yet have experience with these tools, we will help you learn and become effective with them.

You will have the opportunity to participate in creating prototypes and exploring alternative designs—we value pull requests, one-pagers, and screencasts to develop rapid prototypes that demonstrate new features.

Our workflow depends on testing and CI—we're working with the Jenkins libraries, groovy, spock, and karate frameworks to bring it all together.
