Job Description:

What’s the role?

Shell’s Renewables & Energy Solutions business was created in 2016 and leads the development and growth of Shell’s integrated power business, including low-carbon sources like wind and solar, new mobility options like electric vehicle charging and lower-carbon fuel options like hydrogen for industry and road transport. Shell continues to provide customers with more renewable and low-carbon power, helping customers to switch to these options through energy solutions and decarbonization services.

The Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) is a multidisciplinary role in an exciting new industry that seeks to bring zero emissions mobility to all sectors of global transportation. In this role, the SSE will provide technical support for all aspects of the Hydrogen Mobility business across the Americas including business development, conceptual engineering, product development, project delivery, operations, and technical safety. The SSE will be responsible for the integration of hydrogen systems across the entire value chain using a Systems Thinking approach. To accomplish this, the SSE will serve as the technical resource and focal point through the full lifecycle of high-profile opportunities and projects, serving as the technical counterpart to the Business Opportunity Manger during opportunity development and to the Project Delivery Manager during the project execution phase.

The candidate is responsible for implementing a fit-for-purpose approach rooted in Systems Engineering to:

Support system design and requirements verification to deploy state-of-the-art solutions and/or de-risk novel technologies
Engage Operations, Projects and HSSE to define strategies, tactics and identify appropriate development partners to meet business and technical goals
Use in-house tools to model or verify system performance and, where necessary, to build new capabilities for use by the Hydrogen team
Support the development of potential Tier 1 suppliers and support the development of a Tier 2 supply chain for Americas
Perform should-cost analyses and assist supply chain development to reduce cost and influence product offerings
Conduct cost and performance optimization of engineered systems
Support the implementation of a Hydrogen Digital Platform to collect and analyze data from Shell’s Hydrogen Refueling network in Americas
Interface with other Lines of Business (e.g. Downstream Manufacturing) to integrate scope of mobility projects into industrial hydrogen projects
