SAN Storage Engineer
Our client is a global provider of world class information technology services. This position will be located in the Irving, Texas area.
This role is responsible for assisting with the implementation, development, optimization, business processes and procedures related to both multitenant and dedicated utility storage platforms. The position will also help perform problem resolution for critical escalations and incidents that occur in the customer environment that could be related to the storage sub-system.
An engineer in this role must be able to understand storage and SAN platform performance characteristics and capacity requirements and have the skill to identify actionable activities to assist in maintaining an acceptable service level for associated environments and applications
Essential Functions and/or duties:
Responsible for management of large scale, multi-site, multi-tenant enterprise class storage technologies
Analyze requirements delivered by customers, systems engineering, and project management to assist in the development of a storage and SAN design and architecture based on company and industry best practices to satisfy requirements
Collaborate with other SAN Engineers to develop system management, monitoring and operations strategy for storage and SAN to maximize uptime and meet agreed upon SLAs
Assist in managing storage and SAN performance and capacity, mine data from various sources, formulate analysis and provide scalability recommendations to resolve any performance and capacity issues
Create process and procedural documents for implementation and support teams
Provide storage and SAN platform update management strategy leadership to the platform operations teams and assist in complex system and patch updates
Required Skills, professional requirements and/or qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
2 years of experience supporting and/or managing enterprise class storage platforms
2 years in an enterprise class support, managed service or professional services organization
2 years experience working with enterprise server platforms (HP)
Assisting with the engineering and maintenance of environment characteristics, including: physical array and servers characteristics, logical disk layout, standard storage and server configurations, storage network
Engaging with customer application and system administration resources to plan for current and long term storage/SAN performance and capacity requirements
Working with project and service management resources to develop action items related to the implementation and sustained storage/SAN configuration management of the environment
Owning configuration change activities required to deploy and maintain customer environments
Creating and maintaining documentation to support the configuration management for customer environments
Analyzing data and developing meaningful reports used by technical and business leaders
Experience troubleshooting complex incidents and problems associated to enterprise storage and large scale SAN environments and related applications
Technical knowledge of server hardware, operating systems and applications. Especially related to HP, VMware, Windows, Linux and SQL.
Understanding of replication and snapshot methodologies used in enterprise storage environments
Hands on experience with HP EVA and 3PAR arrays
Hands on experience with Brocade switches
Experience with moving/migrating systems and data
Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills
Serving as third tier escalation for incidents or problems in a multitenant environment that could be related to the storage environment
Identify and schedule routine maintenance events for customer environments
