is looking for a Sr. Back End Engineer to join our Santa Monica, CA office.

Society6.com is a print on demand marketplace whose goal is to empower its community of incredibly talented artists to create and sell art online through over 60 unique product offerings. We proudly focus on creating high quality products that bring joy into the homes and lives of our large and growing customer base.

Our platform is built primarily using PHP, Python, React-Redux, MySQL and CouchBase. It is hosted on Amazon Web Services leveraging EC2, S3, RDS, and CloudFront. Society6.com serves over a million page views per day and our servers process thousands of requests per second.

You’ll Report To: VP Engineering, Society6

Responsibilities:

Work with a team of high level dedicated engineers in the creation of our e-commerce platform, tools for artists, mobile optimized sites, and search / discovery for our millions of pieces of art.

Deliver well-crafted software on-time that meets acceptance criteria

Collaborate with team members about discussions of architecture and scale

Participate in code reviews, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives

Display ownership and responsibility for the projects you work on

Design scalable solutions that will meet the demands of our high volume of daily traffic and daily transactions

Mentor engineers to help them grow their problem solving skills and help them in the growth of their engineering knowledge

What You Have:

Expert knowledge of PHP and MySQL

Expert knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming

Experience with designing and developing in automated testing environments using PHPUnit and/or CodeCeption

Passionate about optimizing application performance and improving user experience

Never-ending desire to self-educate in areas of programming and technology

Significant experience in working as a part of an agile engineering team

Proven track record in delivering well-crafted, scalable software

Previous experience being the primary responsible person behind an API or large software project

Effective at communicating software design and implementation details

Not afraid to wear multiple hats - no job being too small or too large.

We're casual and informal but we work hard and work responsibly. A pleasant and supportive demeanor goes a long way.

Huge Pluses:

PHP framework experience such as Laravel, Symfony, or Zend

Expert with a programming language other than PHP, ideally Python

Experience with Node, React-Redux, CouchBase and/or Redis

You’ve used job or message queuing systems at scale

Confidence with Git and a linux terminal

You’ve worked with Docker in your development environment
