Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Zoning Attorney to join its nationally recognized Land Use and Zoning Practice in New York City. The role involves representing developers, property owners, and investors in significant development projects through zoning analysis, due diligence, and advisory work on the Zoning Resolution and related regulations.

Duties

• Conduct zoning analysis and due diligence for specific sites and development programs.



• Handle development rights transactions and advise clients on the application of the Zoning Resolution.



• Manage discretionary land use approvals, including rezonings, special permits, variances, and environmental review.



• Represent clients in landmark matters before the New York City Planning Commission, Board of Standards and Appeals, and City Council.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of private practice or government experience in land use law.



• Proven experience interpreting and applying the New York City Zoning Resolution and related regulatory laws.



• Experience conducting zoning due diligence and preparing comprehensive zoning analyses.



• Experience advising clients on development-related matters and handling zoning applications is strongly preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in New York State.

Skills

• Deep knowledge of the New York City Zoning Resolution and land use regulations.



• Strong analytical skills for due diligence and regulatory interpretation.



• Effective communication skills for advising clients and managing governmental agency interactions.
