Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Family Law Litigation Attorney to join its Spartanburg, SC office. This full-time, in-office role focuses on complex family law matters, including high-asset divorce and contested custody, across all 46 South Carolina counties. The position offers a manageable caseload with robust support staff and opportunities for collaboration on high-profile matters.

Duties

• Manage an independent caseload of complex South Carolina family law matters, including high-asset divorce and equitable distribution.
• Handle contested child custody, visitation, relocation, and modification litigation in South Carolina Family Court.
• Conduct discovery in complex cases involving financial records, business valuations, and expert witnesses.
• Appear independently in hearings, temporary hearings, contested trials, and mediations statewide.
• Advise clients on alimony, child support, contempt of court, and post-decree matters.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on high-complexity and high-profile referral matters as trust and experience develop.

Requirements

• Active, good-standing South Carolina Bar membership.
• 5+ years of South Carolina family law experience strongly preferred; 3-4 years with demonstrated courtroom history considered.
• Proven record of independent Family Court appearances, including hearings, temporary hearings, contested trials, and/or mediations.
• Ability to handle matters statewide across South Carolina, including international family law issues.
• Must work in-office in Spartanburg, SC daily when not in court; remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.

Education

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active South Carolina Bar license.

• Experience with financially complex divorce matters, including high-asset cases, business interests, and executive compensation.
• Strong organization, communication, written advocacy, and oral argument skills.
• Self-starter who manages cases and clients proactively and professionally.
• Collaborative by nature, comfortable and effective in a close-knit team environment.
