Job Overview

A law firm seeks a skilled Trusts & Estates Associate to join its Portland, OR office. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a junior-level attorney with 3-5 years of experience to advise high-net-worth individuals, private foundations, and family offices on complex estate planning and administration matters within a dynamic team environment.

Duties

• Advise clients on multi-generational wealth planning, tax optimization, and strategic wealth transfer techniques such as dynasty trusts and GRATs.



• Draft complex estate plans, charitable gift agreements, and trust structures tailored to sophisticated client needs.



• Counsel fiduciaries on post-death and ongoing trust administration, including trust accounting, modifications, and decanting.



• Act as a key liaison between clients, senior partners, and outside advisors to manage large-scale planning projects.



• Advise on the characterization of community and separate property, including transmutation agreements.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.



• Admission to and good standing with the Oregon State Bar.



• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in private client services within a law firm setting.



• Demonstrated independent drafting experience with a wide range of estate planning and trust documents.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in Oregon.



• Additional state bar admission in Washington is a plus.

Skills

• Experience with cross-border matters or multi-jurisdictional planning is desired.



• Experience with prenuptial, postnuptial, and cohabitation agreements is a plus.



• Superior oral and written communication skills.



• Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and complex projects independently.
