Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Litigation Associate with 4-6 years of commercial or intellectual property litigation experience to join its expanding team in New York, NY. The role involves handling sophisticated patent disputes across federal courts and administrative bodies, with a preference for candidates looking to deepen their expertise in this specialized practice area.

Duties

• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents while conducting thorough legal research.


• Take and defend depositions, manage discovery processes, and prepare for hearings and trials.


• Manage complex cases, handle competing deadlines, and collaborate closely with clients and colleagues.


• Participate in trial preparation and support attorneys in representing clients before federal district courts, the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.


 

Requirements

• 4-6 years of experience in commercial or intellectual property litigation.


• Patent litigation experience is preferred.


• Admission to practice in the relevant jurisdiction is required.


• Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is preferred but not required.


 

Education

• Law degree from an accredited institution.


• A bachelor's degree in engineering or a scientific field is a plus.


 

Certifications

• Active membership in good standing in the jurisdiction where the associate will practice.


• Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is preferred.


 

Skills

• Strong writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.


• Ability to manage competing deadlines and work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.


• Experience in cross-border matters or diverse industry sectors (e.g., software, life sciences, manufacturing) is valued.
