Job Overview

A law firm in San Diego, California, seeks an Associate Attorney to join its preeminent Technology Transactions Practice Group. The ideal candidate will support the market-leading Life Sciences Transactions + Licensing team, advising clients across the product lifecycle from discovery through commercialization. This role offers exposure to complex, cross-border matters and collaboration with top-tier lawyers across multiple disciplines.

Duties

• Advise clients on license agreements, collaboration, research, and development agreements, and university licensing transactions.



• Manage patent licensing, commercialization strategies, and agricultural technology licensing and development agreements.



• Handle distribution, supply, commercialization, and manufacturing transactions, including clinical trial arrangements.



• Conduct intellectual property and commercial contract due diligence to support corporate transactions such as venture financings and M&A.



• Prepare and review key transaction documents while interfacing with clients, in-house counsel, and counterparties.



• Collaborate across practice areas, including corporate, IP, regulatory, and litigation, on multidisciplinary matters.

Requirements

• Hold a J.D. from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice in California.



• Have 3-6 years of relevant experience at a top law firm or in-house legal department.



• Demonstrate a strong preference for candidates with extensive experience in the life sciences sector.



• Exhibit experience with the legal, regulatory, and business issues unique to the life sciences industry.



• Display superior drafting, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.



• Manage multiple matters and clients simultaneously with high responsiveness and attention to detail.

Education

• J.D. from an accredited law school.



• An undergraduate or advanced degree in biological sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, business, or similar areas is preferred but not required.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in California.

Skills

• Experience with transactions in agriculture, including plant biotechnology, and food, including CPG, is a plus.



• Ability to interface with clients and counterparties in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment.



• Strong interest in transactions driving innovation in biotech, pharma, medtech, digital health, and agriculture.
