A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney in Houston, TX, to join its growing Immigration Law practice. This role focuses on removal defense for detained and non-detained individuals, offering a dynamic environment for developing litigation and advocacy skills while handling complex immigration matters.

Duties

• Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court, including master calendar, individual, and bond hearings.



• Prepare and file motions, briefs, habeas corpus petitions, and appellate filings while conducting thorough legal research.



• Handle family-based immigration matters, including petitions, adjustment of status applications, and naturalization cases.



• Conduct client consultations in Spanish and English, managing case files, deadlines, and communications with government agencies.



• Stay current on immigration law developments and collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality representation.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.



• Active admission to a U.S. state bar and good standing.



• Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) is required for client communications.



• Experience handling immigration cases, including removal defense or family-based matters.



• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills with excellent organizational abilities.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active Bar License in a U.S. state.

Skills

• Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written).



• Experience appearing in Immigration Court for various hearing types.



• Familiarity with AILA resources and immigration case management software.



• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and appear before detention facilities.
