Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level Energy Regulatory Associate with at least three years of experience to join its practice in Washington, D.C. The associate will collaborate with partners on proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state public utility commissions, as well as appeals in federal and state courts, regulatory counseling, and commercial transactions for energy clients.

Duties

• Assist on contested matters before FERC, including rate cases and settlement negotiations.
• Advise oil and natural gas clients on FERC jurisdiction and compliance programs.
• Engage in transactional work, including transportation service agreements and commodity sales.
• Monitor and analyze regulatory developments and prepare client alerts and presentations.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years practicing energy regulatory law, including FERC litigation.
• Experience counseling clients in the oil and natural gas industry preferred.
• Familiarity with crude oil, natural gas pipeline, and tariff matters is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong legal research, analysis, and drafting abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and work independently and as part of a team.

Education

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admitted to and in good standing with the District of Columbia Bar or eligible for admission by waiver.
