Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Counsel attorney to join its growing Labor & Employment practice in Los Angeles. This role offers substantial opportunities for direct client interaction, case management, courtroom advocacy, and trial experience within a sophisticated employment litigation environment.

Duties

• Manage a sophisticated caseload of 10-20 employment litigation matters from inception through resolution.



• Investigate claims, prepare case strategies, and assess complaints filed in state and federal courts.



• Draft and respond to discovery requests, pleadings, and motions; conduct legal research using Westlaw.



• Take and defend expert and fact depositions; attend hearings and argue motions.



• Prepare cases for mediation and trial, including co-chairing trials with direct and cross-examination of witnesses.



• Provide strategic advice to clients on discipline, termination, and high-exposure public entity matters.

Requirements

• Significant labor and employment litigation experience representing employers.



• Public entity experience is strongly encouraged.



• Demonstrated ability to independently manage litigation matters through all phases of the case lifecycle.



• Exceptional legal research, writing, and communication skills.



• Strong oral advocacy, interpersonal skills, and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admitted to the California Bar and in good standing.

Skills

• Extensive experience in handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances.



• Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.



• Experience in mentoring and guiding junior associates.
