Job Overview
A law firm seeks a seasoned attorney with 10 to 25 years of construction law experience to join its Litigation Practice Team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The ideal candidate will handle complex construction claims, disputes, and contract matters, serving as lead counsel on high-stakes litigation and arbitration.

Duties

• Handle all types of construction claims, including delays, defects, liens, and bonds, serving as lead counsel on complex disputes.
• Draft, review, and negotiate standard form (e.g., AIA, ConsensusDocs) and custom construction contracts, addressing liability and ADR provisions.
• Lead and manage construction litigation matters, including trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings with first-chair responsibilities.
• Argue motions, take and defend depositions (including expert witnesses), and conduct legal research and writing.
• Counsel clients on risk management, contract compliance, and dispute avoidance strategies in the construction industry.
• Manage client relationships, serve as a primary point of contact, and contribute to business development efforts.
• Mentor and collaborate with associates and other team members on construction law and dispute resolution matters.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• 10 to 25 years of significant experience in construction law, including both contract work and claims.
• Demonstrated experience handling all types of construction claims, including delays, inefficiencies, defects, warranties, design issues, liens, and bonds.
• Material experience drafting and negotiating standard form contracts (e.g., AIA, ConsensusDocs) as well as custom construction contracts.
• Lead trial, arbitration, and administrative proceeding experience, with demonstrated first-chair responsibilities.
• Extensive experience leading litigation matters, arguing motions, and taking and defending depositions, including expert depositions.
• Admission to the Michigan bar is required; candidates not currently licensed must be willing to become admitted.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan.
