Job Overview

A law firm in San Diego, CA seeks an Associate Attorney to support senior leadership in family law matters, including dissolutions, custody disputes, and property division. The ideal candidate will manage a complex caseload, conduct legal research, and provide strategic counsel to clients in high-conflict situations.

Duties

• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and settlement proposals while developing case strategies and factual narratives.



• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials, ensuring all procedural deadlines are met.



• Advise clients on legal rights and options, maintaining clear communication during emotionally challenging matters.



• Analyze financial information, including tax returns and asset profiles, to prepare support calculations and legal memoranda.



• Negotiate marital settlement agreements and parenting plans, participating in collaborative law processes and settlement conferences.



• Oversee paralegal and support staff work, contributing to firm growth through business development and professional activities.

Requirements

• Active Member of the State Bar of California.



• One to five years of recent experience as an Associate Attorney in family law.



• Experience attending court hearings or trials is preferred.



• Ability to manage a large caseload while multitasking and fostering teamwork.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in California.

Skills

• Strong legal research and writing skills, with proficiency in LexisNexis, Westlaw, or similar databases.



• Experience with XSpouse, Lawyaw (Clio Draft), or law firm client management software is preferred.



• Excellent critical thinking, judgment, and analytical reasoning abilities.



• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and modern practice management software.



• Ability to remain composed and solution-oriented in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
