Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced associate to join its Consumer Law, Finance & Class Action Practice Group in Chicago, IL. The role involves handling sophisticated consumer product safety, regulatory enforcement, and litigation matters, with a particular focus on U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) proceedings. The position offers the opportunity to work on a national platform, advising clients on complex regulatory and litigation issues while developing a sophisticated practice spanning counseling, enforcement, and trial.

Duties

• Advise and represent manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers on consumer product safety, regulatory compliance, and enforcement matters.



• Manage CPSC investigations, product recalls, remediation strategies, and regulatory reporting obligations.



• Handle product liability, class action, and complex consumer-related litigation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and managing discovery.



• Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, and trials, serving as a persuasive oral advocate and legal writer.

Requirements

• 3-6 years of relevant experience in consumer product safety, consumer protection, regulatory enforcement, or complex litigation.



• Experience gained in private practice, government service, or a combination of both is preferred.



• Proven ability to handle significant aspects of litigation or enforcement matters, including research, drafting, and client counseling.



• Demonstrated sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a collaborative environment.

Education

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

Certifications

• Active member in good standing of the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where admitted to practice.



• Timely admission to the Bar of the jurisdiction in which the hiring office is located is required as a condition of employment.

Skills

• Experience with the CPSC, the Consumer Product Safety Act, or other federal or state consumer protection laws is strongly preferred.



• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a focus on client service.



• Ability to advise on government investigations, regulatory compliance, and remediation strategies.
