A law firm in Newark, New Jersey, seeks a Junior Associate Attorney to support its Real Estate, Land Use, and Litigation practice groups. This entry-level position offers direct mentorship and foundational training in municipal approvals, transactional work, and dispute resolution within urban communities.

Duties

• Conduct foundational research on zoning ordinances, redevelopment law, and municipal procedures to support case strategy.



• Assist in drafting land-use applications, redevelopment submissions, and long-term tax exemption filings for review.



• Support real estate transactions through due diligence, title review, survey analysis, and closing checklist preparation.



• Prepare preliminary drafts of lender compliance documents, loan schedules, and municipal certifications.



• Research procurement, ethics, and public contracting requirements for government-entity clients.



• Attend internal and municipal meetings as an observer, with client-facing responsibilities expanding over time.



• Maintain meticulous timekeeping in Clio and meet annual billable hour targets with consistent monthly pacing.



• Research legal issues and draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and briefs under the direction of senior attorneys.



• Handle discovery tasks, including drafting requests, document review, privilege logs, and deficiency letters.



• Prepare deposition outlines, witness materials, and exhibit bundles; attend depositions and hearings in support roles.



• Track court deadlines and case management orders, preparing filings for submission through eCourts.



• Handle routine appearances, such as case management conferences, upon admission and with supervisory approval.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.



• Admitted to practice in New Jersey, or a recent graduate awaiting admission.



• Strong research, writing, and citation skills, demonstrated through a provided writing sample.



• Meticulous attention to detail and disciplined time management capabilities.



• Genuine interest in urban redevelopment, community-centered legal work, and litigation.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• New Jersey Bar admission (or pending admission for recent graduates).

Skills

• 0 to 2 years of experience in real estate, land use, municipal, or litigation practice, including clerkships or internships.



• New York or Pennsylvania bar admission is preferred.



• Familiarity with Clio and Microsoft 365 is preferred.



• Ability to produce clean first drafts with correct citations and absorb feedback efficiently.



• Strong communication skills to keep supervising attorneys informed and deadlines visible.
