A law firm seeks a Defense Litigation Associate Attorney to join its growing Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team in New York, NY. This role focuses on national asbestos defense, offering hands-on experience in complex toxic tort matters across state and federal courts. The position involves collaborative, high-level litigation strategy and meaningful responsibility representing defendants in various industries.

Duties

• Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs and fact witnesses, and represent clients at courtroom appearances, including oral arguments and discovery conferences.



• Research legal, procedural, and scientific issues, and collaborate with senior attorneys on litigation strategy for sophisticated, high-stakes matters.



• Draft responsive pleadings, memoranda, briefs, and significant motions, including motions for summary judgment and discovery motions.



• Prepare detailed reports for clients, including deposition reports, litigation status updates, and comprehensive case analysis reports.

Requirements

• Admission to the New York and New Jersey bars is required.



• Minimum of two years of experience in asbestos defense litigation.



• Engagement in sophisticated, high-stakes litigation on behalf of long-standing clients.



• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with strong organizational skills.

Education

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in New York and New Jersey.

Skills

• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.



• Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video platforms for depositions, court conferences, and hearings.



• Strong ability to rapidly absorb and analyze new information.



• High level of professionalism, conscientiousness, and responsibility.



• Positive, flexible, and cooperative attitude; military experience is welcome.
