Job Overview

A law firm seeks an associate with 3-6 years of experience to join its Consumer Law, Finance & Class Action Practice Group in Raleigh, NC. The role involves handling sophisticated consumer product safety, regulatory enforcement, and litigation matters, with a particular focus on U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) proceedings.

Duties

• Advise and represent manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers on consumer product safety and regulatory compliance issues.


• Manage CPSC investigations, enforcement proceedings, product recalls, remediation matters, and regulatory reporting obligations.


• Handle consumer protection claims and complex litigation arising from product safety matters, including product liability and class actions.


• Research and draft pleadings and motions, manage written and document discovery, and prepare for and participate in depositions.


• Assist with hearings and trials, and advise clients on government investigations and regulatory compliance strategies.


 

Requirements

• Meaningful experience with consumer product safety, consumer protection, regulatory enforcement, or complex litigation matters.


• Experience gained in private practice, government service, or a combination of both is required.


• Ability to handle significant aspects of litigation or enforcement matters, including discovery management and deposition preparation.


• Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a collaborative, client-focused environment.


 

Education

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.


 

Certifications

• Active member in good standing of the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where admitted to practice.


• Timely admission to the Bar of the jurisdiction in which the hiring office is located is required as a condition of employment.


 

Skills

• Experience with the CPSC, the Consumer Product Safety Act, or other federal or state consumer protection laws and regulatory agencies is strongly preferred.


• Prior law firm or government enforcement experience is preferred.


• Persuasive legal writer and oral advocate with strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
