Job Overview

A law firm seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join its dynamic team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role offers an excellent opportunity for newly licensed attorneys or those with one to three years of experience to gain meaningful courtroom exposure across various legal areas.

Duties

• Manage a diverse caseload with support from the firm's attorneys and staff.
• Meet with clients and maintain clear, timely communication throughout their cases.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Attend hearings, conferences, depositions, mediations, and court proceedings.
• Travel to courts, administrative offices, and other locations throughout Michigan as required.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel and other parties.
• Assist with case strategy, discovery, trial preparation, and litigation.
• Track deadlines and maintain organized, accurate case files.
• Help develop new client relationships and contribute to the firm's growth.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active Michigan Bar license and good standing, or eligibility for admission with results pending.
• Newly licensed attorneys and candidates with one to three years of experience are encouraged to apply.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Comfortable appearing in court and advocating on behalf of clients.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout Michigan for court appearances and other responsibilities.
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
• Ability to manage multiple matters, priorities, and deadlines.
• Professional, dependable, organized, and attentive to detail.
• A client-focused approach and a desire to provide high-quality legal representation.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• An existing book of business is welcome but not required.

Education

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active Michigan Bar license or eligibility for admission.
