Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Bankruptcy Attorney in Miami, Florida, to lead Chapter 7 trustee representation and estate litigation. This senior associate or junior partner level role involves managing a caseload independently, directing support staff, and advising on fiduciary matters within the insolvency practice.

Duties

• Evaluate new Chapter 7 cases for administrable assets and recommend strategies for pursuing estate claims and asset recovery.



• Serve as lead counsel on asset sales, compromises, turnover actions, and objections to exemptions and discharges.



• Direct post-meeting investigations, including document demands and Rule 2004 examinations, to uncover estate assets.



• Lead turnover, preference, and fraudulent transfer litigation from initial demands through trial and evidentiary hearings.



• Supervise associates and paralegals, reviewing work product and developing their professional judgment and skills.



• Report case status, recoveries, and risks to leadership while maintaining accurate deadline calendars and fee applications.



• Advise on Chapter 727 assignments and state court receiverships, representing creditors and distressed asset purchasers.



• Maintain relationships with panel trustees and the insolvency bar, contributing to practice development through writing and speaking.

Requirements

• Member in good standing of The Florida Bar and admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.



• Seven or more years of bankruptcy practice with substantial experience representing Chapter 7 trustees or comparable fiduciaries.



• Proven experience as first chair at evidentiary hearings or trials, demonstrating strong courtroom advocacy skills.



• A record of managing matters independently from engagement through resolution with high attention to fiduciary duties.



• Experience supervising legal teams, including associates and paralegals, to ensure quality and efficiency.



• Proficiency with CM/ECF, PACER, and the Florida E-Filing Portal for effective case management.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Board certification in Business Bankruptcy Law by The Florida Bar or the American Board of Certification is preferred.

Skills

• Chapter 11 experience, including trustee, examiner, or committee representation, is desired.



• Experience with Chapter 727 assignments or state court receiverships is preferred.



• Active involvement in the Bankruptcy Bar Association of the Southern District of Florida is valued.



• An established referral network in the insolvency community is preferred.



• Working proficiency in Spanish, both spoken and written, is desired.
