Staff Attorney
Duties: Providing free legal and social work case management services to indigent families of children with disabilities to address their educational, developmental and health needs; Educating front-line health and medical professionals on identification of social issues that adversely affect child health and family well-being and methods for resolving these issues without resort to legal involvement; and Enhancing the educational experiences, professional development, knowledge and skills of those studying and/or working in the fields of law, medicine and social work through collaboration in a multi-disciplinary setting. Provide legal advice, consultation and direct representation to parents/caregivers of children with disabilities primarily in the areas of special education, guardianship and public benefits; collaborate and consul with medical and social work staff on work with clients; manage an active client caseload of 40-50 families. Organize, develop materials for, and conduct/participate in cross-training sessions with students and professionals in law and other disciplines, and parents/caregivers, on topics relevant to clients and collaborative work. Assisting in all aspects of program development, implementation, networking and fundraising.
