Profile
This is a full time non traveling position located in Irvine, CA. This is not contracting. This is a full time career oppportunity.
Our client is an Enterprise Content Management company with a proven track record of implementing business-focused ECM solutions across a variety of industries.
Our client is a software development company based in Irvine, CA. They are a flexible, results-oriented organization full of smart, energetic, self-motivated people driven to achieve excellence. Our culture is open, fun, and tolerant, and we value an appreciation of life outside work.
They have a large Documentum team, primarily in their orange county office. They have a big presence across Southern California. Our client has been doing documentum for about 12 years now and they are a premier EMC partner. They do quite a bit of professional services work both based on their own sales as well as subcontracted by EMC. They are looking for an addition to the team that has good development skills, that has good system based skills, and can do a full project from customer analysis facing work all the way to development and implementation. They are not seeking a developer, rather a Documentum Architect.
If you were to join our client, here is an assortment of what could happen in terms of what you would work on. . .There isn’t a “specific” first project per say. If someone started today for example, they would probably be working on a multi-faced implementation for a department within a client. This client for example, has an enterprise solution that they’ve implemented. They’ve gone live with one group and they are adding features to that environment. They have a need of nine deployments and they are on deployment number two. So there’s a good chance that whoever they hire for this role will be involved with all of those deployments for the next six months to a year as well as any other deployments our client will picks up along the way. There are migrations, there are upgrades, and there are “net new” implementations. Furthermore, there is another “net new” enterprise solution that we are building out for another customer.
Another completely different project as an example, includes three or four staff aug situations. Our client, in some situations, has been asked to coordinate an on-site presence for a number of days per week. So we have a situation where one department might say “I want one of your resources to come on-site for two days a week” and that might last for six months. So the candidate we hire might be in a situation where they are working on a project on a Monday, going to the client site where they are doing some analysis work, assist with a deployment, and do some basic operational or support work on a Tuesday or a Wednesday as part of that staff aug on site situation and then come back to work on a different project on Thursday and Friday. So at any given time there are potentially two or three projects going on, unless there is a special situation where someone is dedicated to a single project for a lengthy amount of time, which happens sometimes too.
Our client is looking more long term for situations where they will have a couple big projects where they know they will need staff for in the long run. In the past they have filled positions like this they have focused more on the development aspects of it, like a true java developer. That is certainly a portion of it but recently they have been very successful on projects where basically one person who has the skills that we’re looking for is there from beginning to end. So in the past they have had a formal business analysis role that goes in and does all the requirements gathering, and then that’s handed off to a developer, and then that’s handed off to a developer and the developer builds everything, and then that developer hands off to a system engineer and the system engineer implements. However, our client has found that handing off the process from a BA to a developer tends to be problematic. There really is a lot of benefit of us getting somebody who can do the product installation, configuration, and some of the architecture and also do that development. So, we’re looking for someone that has background in both of those areas. This is why we need a Documentum Architect, not really a documentum developer.
This person will not be isolated on projects. At a minimum there will always be a project manager but in a lot of cases there are at least one or two other people involved. It is not going to be a situation where someone is on an island out there just doing their own thing, that’s definitely rare. We want to make sure we find someone with a skill set that can fill all those roles described above.
You would be working in documentum specifically, and our client tends to work with the latest and greatest version. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume you will keep your skill set current. It is not only something that’s required, but also very easy to accomplish while working for our client given the type of work you will be doing. They also deal with a lot of other products that they might be interested in delving into: capture solutions, Kofax and Captiva as well as integrations with Documentum and other system. This will really leverage their skills in web services, development of front end applications, potentially integration between Documentum and SharePoint which is becoming pretty popular for a portal type of approach. So the breadth of the projects available would be something that would be exciting to a candidate.
