Clinical Fellow
The Fellow will be part of a clinical team that works with some of most vulnerable and marginalized citizens in a range of domestic relations and civil legal issue cases across the state. Will provide legal advocacy services and direct representation to clients and perform other related duties pursuant to grants and contracts, including supervision of the experiential clinic students' legal advocacy work. Reports to the faculty directors of each clinic. Assist in improving a screening process for potential clients. Conduct intakes with clients. Be responsible for case management of clients. Provide assistance in drafting court documents for clients. Provide legal advice to clients. Provide representation to clients in mediation/negotiations. Provide in-court representation to clients. Conduct legal research necessary to develop a client's case. Draft court filings and responsive documents. Comply with discovery requests. Conduct investigation necessary to prepare for litigation. Legal matters handled include, divorce, custody, domestic violence, child advocacy and guardian ad litem appointments, veterans' benefits, social security overpayment, individual education programs and public housing. In addition to representing and advocating for clients directly, the Fellow will supervise students providing legal advocacy to low income clients. The Fellow will be responsible to provide primary coverage for the Clinics' caseloads during winter and summer breaks. Finally, the position offers the unique opportunity to join a dynamic public interest-focused legal services program, providing a much-needed legal resource.
