Digital Support Specialist
General summary/purpose:
The Office of Communications for Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) helps Johns Hopkins realize its mission of providing knowledge for the world by communicating the successes and priorities of the Johns Hopkins Institutions.

The Digital Support Specialist helps to develop and track digital communications content and projects to increase constituents' awareness of Johns Hopkins' philanthropic priorities and the impact of philanthropy at Johns Hopkins and around the world.

Specific duties & responsibilities:
Content creation and digital production support:
Work closely with the team and with beat contacts to develop social-first stories (original and re-purposed) for digital channels.
Work in concert with university and divisional social media practitioners to leverage content and highlight campaign-related and other priority initiatives.
Collaborate with and provide support to central and divisional colleagues on specific social-driven initiatives (e.g., giving days).
Participate in the beat system, through which staff from the office establish relationships with schools and divisions for the purposes of information gathering and story development.
Provide WordPress support for giving.jhu.edu
Develop and draft longer form articles/stories for use online and for adaptation to social media.
Contribute to the planning and scheduling of ongoing messaging.
Investigate, assess, and implement new digital platforms.
Capture and report post analytics.
Assist with social media trainings for DAR staff.
Assist with other projects and emerging priorities as needed
Digital Communications research support:
Maintain knowledge of digital communications trends and emerging technology and help to adjust our digital communications plans accordingly.
Review and evaluate current platforms to reveal unused capabilities.
Investigate and find new potential sources of constituent data and help evaluate their use for communications and development.
Minimum qualifications:
Two years college coursework and some related experience required.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the Johns Hopkins University equivalency formula.

Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications, English, or a closely related field strongly preferred.
The candidate must be ready to demonstrate experience in using a wide range of social media platforms;
have an ability to function in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
have the flexibility to work independently or in a team and interact successfully with a range of sources and reviewers;
write quickly and powerfully; and deliver products that satisfy strategic requirements.
Strong knowledge of and familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn is required. The candidate must be proficient in WordPress, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Photoshop.
Familiarity with website content management systems, search engine optimization, Google Analytics, and HTML programming experience is preferred.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
