The candidate will be be present with defendants during their first interaction with the Court system at arraignment. Explain to each defendant the charges against themo. Explain to each defendant their rights at that stage in the proceedingo. Make bail argument. Justice Courts - These courts handle misdemeanors and violations. This will provide the attorney with an opportunity to gain frequent, real court experience. Will be responsible for handling cases from start to finish and dealing directly with the District Attorney’s Office and various Judges. Should be admitted to practice in the State of New York and a valid driver’s license.Additional Information:This position is entry level and ideal for recent graduates. Will experience the criminal justice system from arraignment to conclusion be it a plea bargain or jury trial. This position affords any attorney seeking experience in the criminal justice system an opportunity to work with experienced defense attorneys with decades of legal experience to draw on while also being afforded great autonomy to handle own caseload.
