Director of Externships & Bar Success
Duties: Forge mutually beneficial relationships with law firms, businesses, governmental, public interest entities, and the other potential partners. Increase opportunities for externship placements on a local, regional, and national level. Develop and manage 3L externship program, including student application system. Work with Assistant Dean for Career Development and Assistant Dean for Employer Outreach on strategy regarding above. Counsel students regarding externship opportunities. Advise students in selecting appropriate placements. Develop, implement, and conduct programming regarding externships. Provide overview and counsel students regarding steps necessary to register for bar exam. Direct students to appropriate resources for bar exam information in various jurisdictions. Develop clear and concise systems for providing information to students. Be accessible for student questions and counseling. Collaborate with other Law College faculty and staff, including Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, on curricular items, including externship credit, course schedule, and enrollment. Collaborate with Law College faculty and staff regarding bar exam issues. Ensure that externships comply with ABA and Law College rules. Work with other Law College faculty and staff members to ensure same. Work with externship supervisors to ensure appropriate training, development, and feedback for externs. Coordinate with externship supervisors regarding all necessary paperwork. Collect and maintain data regarding externship placements. Prepare periodic reports for Assistant Dean for Career Development. Assist with CDO special events, several evenings per year.
