Job Summary
The UNIX Administrator (L3) is responsible for providing the highest tier of operations support for UNIX-based servers and
associated applications in a multi-site environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Serves as a key internal knowledge expert for UNIX administration.
Provides coaching and mentoring to the UNIX administration team to ensure best practices and standards are followed
and team members continue to grow in their knowledge of UNIX administration and associated technologies.
Coordinates UNIX system maintenance activities such as upgrades and patches as necessary to support business
requirements and operations schedules.
Collaborates with other IT Infrastructure team leads and staff to facilitate problem resolution, project definition and
completion, and consistency and compliance to departmental standards and policies.
Ensures appropriate tools are in place to streamline UNIX administration and facilitate real-time system monitoring,
performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Coordinates with change management team to ensure production release procedures are properly completed prior to
implementation of changes in production.
Works as part of the UNIX team in the development, maintenance, and testing of business continuity and disaster
recovery capabilities and procedures associated with our UNIX systems.
Ensures the security and integrity of our UNIX systems is maintained through application of appropriate security
mechanisms and adherence to security best practices.
Provides advanced troubleshooting on UNIX related problems and works with inside and outside resources as necessary
to resolve them.
Ensures system documentation is created and maintained including operational procedures.








Educational and/or Experience



Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field required. Master’s degree desired.
Minimum of 9 years experience in UNIX server administration.
Minimum of 5 years experience supporting a Redhat Linux environment.
Proven ability to multi-task and operate in a dynamic enterprise environment.
Extensive experience with RHEL 5/6 server design, administration and troubleshooting.
Experience deploying and managing servers in a VMWare ESX virtual environment.
Knowledge of AIX 5.3, IBM SAN, RDAC, HACMP a plus.
Experience configuring and supporting various applications on Redhat Linux including Apache, Tomcat, OpenSSL, etc.
Background in UNIX server security including system hardening, application security, and patch management.
Experience managing systems using Redhat Satellite/Spacewalk and Puppet.
Knowledge of disaster recovery methods and procedures.
Experience with networking protocols and applications such as DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, SSL, FTP, SCP, etc.
Experience configuring and using server monitoring tools. Nagios experience a plus.
Working knowledge of Oracle databases operating on Redhat Linux.
Experience administering and supporting LDAP. Oracle Internet Directory experience a plus.
Ability to script and automate tasks using language of choice.
Background working with EXT3/4, NFS3/4, iSCSI, VXFS, and LVM including raid level concepts, storage
performance, and optimization.
Experience designing and troubleshooting clustered/loadbalanced environments. Veritas cluster and F5 BIG-IP a plus.
Experience supporting Oracle E-business related applications including WMS, SOA suite, Demantra, OBIEE, UCM, and
Weblogic running on Redhat Linux desired.
Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships.



















Must have excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
UNIX or other relevant IT certifications a plus.
Work Environment


This position requires working in an office environment.
This is primarily a first shift position but adjustments to shift start/end times may be required as necessary to support
implementations and maintenance activities.
Availability for on-call during non-business hours is required.
After hours and weekend work is required for system troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades.


