SALARY:
$11.90 - $20.39 per hour
This is responsible work assisting in operating and managing the City’s swimming pools. Works with Recreation Supervisor (Aquatics) establishing and maintaining lifeguard standards. Responsibilities include supervising lifeguard activities; ensuring patrons’ safety and well-being; and maintaining pool facilities in accordance with County Health Department standards. Work schedule may require evening and weekend hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent swimming skills.
Considerable knowledge of rescue/lifesaving techniques.
Ability to apply lifeguard and emergency response skills, swimmer surveillance and rescue techniques, and first aid.
Working knowledge of swimming pool operations and equipment, and rescue equipment.
Ability to effectively enforce water safety rules and regulations; tactfully address complaints.
Ability to instruct personnel in swimming and lifesaving methods; plan and schedule work.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public; work effectively with children and young adults.
Training, Certification, and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience in operating aquatic facilities.
Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Multi-Media First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Lifeguard, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certifications.
American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate.
Possess Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification or, must obtain within six months of employment.
Copies of required certification(s) must be submitted with the application.
