Our valued client in New Haven, CT is seeking an experienced z/OS, DASD Sr. Systems Programmer.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the design and administration of all mainframe systems across enterprise computing environment. Provides a senior level of technical expertise in systems programming to systems and applications personnel. Provide Tier 3 support for service requests for mainframe systems issues.
Duties and assignments
: 

 z/OS upgrade - to version 1.13

storage Administration duties - IBM DS8100 DASD; IBM 3494-B10 VTS; IBM 3584-L22 Tape Library
Program Product upgrades - CA (CA1, Roscoe, Librarian), BMC
Performance monitoring and tuning - familiarity with CA Sysview helpful

RACF
Problem diagnosis and resolution experience needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the analysis, development, modification, installation, testing and maintenance of mainframe operating systems software 

Modifies and/or debugs vendor-supplied utilities and packages 

Diagnoses and de-bugs software problems and performs problem resolution 

Monitors systems capacity and performance, plans and executes disaster recovery procedures 

Possesses a strong understanding of systems programming, graphical user interfaces and control languages 

SCOPE
Advanced professional level role. Evaluates, diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues.

Works under general direction of Team Lead. 

Works in a team as a team member.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.

Typically has 7 – 10 years of IT work experience in support of a variety of mainframe systems and enterprise class applications

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong Interpersonal skills. Analytical and problem solving skills.

Sound judgment in decision making.
