Civil Practice Staff Attorney - Foreclosure Prevention Unit
The candidate will represent clients in state and federal court proceedings and affirmative litigation. Represent clients at settlement conferences and advocacy with lenders to obtain loss mitigation. Advocate with local, state and federal agencies on behalf of clients. Train, conduct community outreach, and provide education for individuals, local community- based organizations, and housing advocates. Advocate for legislative reforms and policy changes. Coordinate and collaborate with other groups and organizations. Work with pro bono lawyers. Represent the Civil Practice and LAS in the community. Conduct community education, training, and outreach and promote the work of the office, the Foreclosure Prevention Practice and the Civil Practice. Conduct off-site intake, including during evening hours as needed. Other duties as assigned. New York State Bar admission or ready for NYS Bar admission is required. Favorable consideration will be given to attorneys who have familiarity with foreclosure, lending and consumer issues, and/or bankruptcy law. Should have excellent litigation skills and experience litigating individual and group cases. Must have excellent written and oral advocacy skills. Proficiency in languages other than English is desirable.
