Part-time Staff Attorney
The candidate will provide direct representation to low-income tenants in housing cases including evictions, terminations from subsidized housing, conditions issues, lease disputes, and illegal lockouts. Cover cases at the Skokie, Rolling Meadows, and Waukegan courthouses. Assist with off-site clinics in the community. Conduct Know Your Rights presentations and workshops for low-income tenants on housing law-related topics. Collaborate with the Domestic Violence Law Practice and Immigration Law Practice teams ensuring a holistic approach to client matters. Co-counsel and assist pro bono attorneys in housing legal matters. Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure the company's team’s success. Should have a J.D. degree and an Illinois Law License. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred. Understanding of the company's public interest law/nonprofit mission is required. Must be a team player with exemplary interpersonal skills in collaborating and communicating with others. entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit start-up environment.
